About the Role:

We are seeking a Cost Engineer to assist on a major shutdown for the maintenance of a smelter for a major mining operation in South Australia for the duration of 3 months. You will be responsible for assisting the Mining and Metals team in identifying, analysing and providing innovation solutions to cost engineering problems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assists in preparing cost data for proposals or contract negotiations.
• Participates in developing and presenting training classes on designated subjects and on-the-job training programs.
• Determines scope definition requirements for a discipline or other specialty and works with Engineering and other sources to coordinate the production of required data to conform to the overall estimate preparation plan.
• Plans, coordinates, and directs preparation of specific budgets. Assists in developing requirements for budgeting standards.
• Develops and implements requirements for cost recording, reporting, and analysing standards, programs, and reports. Performs performance monitoring and control functions.
• Assists in developing specific project codes of accounts and recommends appropriate modifications and revisions. This includes training in the proper use of and definitions for the cost accounts.
• Investigates requirements for estimating and/or cost control data for a specific discipline or other specialty applications.
• Identifies or defines data sources and techniques for data acquisition and collects required data for a specific discipline or other specialty applications.
• Creates and implements measurement systems for given processes, analyses performance metric results, and identifies improvements.

Key Criteria:

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience and criteria:
• Relevant recognised Diploma, Degree or Professional Certification
• Experience in the use of Ecosys or other similar cost management systems
• Experience in performing, monitoring, and reviewing cost engineering functions, including cost estimating, cost control, financial reporting systems, and cost analysis, in the field and the home office.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, organise, direct, perform, review, and present cost engineering and cost estimating products. This includes planning and scheduling products independently with minimal supervision using a high level of professional judgment and knowledge related to technical planning and scheduling skills and engineering design and construction practices.
• Skilled in oral and written communication.
• Advanced level of knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and startup work processes
• Knowledge of engineering and construction management customarily acquired over time through specialised instruction or practical experience.
• Completion of applicable project controls, business administration, legal, accounting, and/or related subjects training
• Experience in the managing and / or supervising of personnel; including defining tasks, making work assignments, evaluating performance, and improving performance
