The client specialise in pumping, treatment, and storage systems, providing our expertise and leading-edge solutions across many significant projects in the mining, commercial, industrial, environmental, process and water infrastructure sectors both nationally and overseas. Their client base ranges from ASX listed companies, government departments through to specialised sole traders.

About the Position

Reporting to Business Unit Manager this role is responsible for reviewing project specifications, consulting with customers and selecting a suitable solution that meets the customers' needs. You will provide accurate market competitive cost estimates to the sales team by utilising a coordinated team effort, to deliver quality outcomes for stakeholders and customers.

You will be responsible for maintaining compliance of quality processes and procedures, efficiency, accuracy and promptness of work outputs and assisting other team members to achieve work output targets.

Typical duties will include:

  • Preparation of a Bill-of-Material for project cost estimation and project cost management.
  • Provide accurate, market competitive cost estimates to the sales team.
  • Analyse plans, project documents and inventory costs to estimate for products of manufacture.
  • Estimations are to include Pricing, Manufacturing/Delivery Timings, Inclusions/Exclusions and assumptions within the required time frame.
  • Accurately assess fit for purpose, with regards to the client's scope of work required, when providing a cost estimate.
  • Close liaison with the Design, Operations and Production Teams.
  • Identify risk and provide solutions related to the scope of work or site requirements.
  • Develop Standard Operating procedures for routine tasks.
  • Develop pricing tools to facilitate efficient and accurate quotes.

To be considered for the role:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience as an Estimator, Project Manager or Technical Sales Engineer with a similar company.
  • Good understanding of BHP, Rio Tinto and FMG Mining electrical & mechanical standards.
  • The ability to provide estimates, proposals, engineering support documents
  • Perform Engineering/Design Calculations. Adherence to Australian standards & good engineering practice.
  • Follow internal QA procedures, update internal documentation as required
  • Knowledge and skills in the preparation of technical/commercial offers based on customer specification requirements
  • Ability to select and size various pump types.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Good mathematics skills & ability to calculate profit margins.
  • Ability to work in a small team under close supervision.
  • Ability to perform under pressure to meet tender deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills and an ability to successfully communicate and liaise with clients and suppliers.
  • High level of customer service.
  • Understanding and imparting technical information.
  • High level problem solving skills.

Desirable Experience and Knowledge:
  • A relevant secondary or tertiary qualification would be advantageous.
  • Engineering background; Mechanical, Civil or Electrical.
  • Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of fabrication & engineering concepts
  • Estimating and tendering experience in manufacturing, construction or the resources sector.
