Embracing Leadership and Values: A Journey of Self-Discovery

Back to Blogs

Beyond the usual 9-5 routine, I'm a performer at heart. Singing, dancing, MCing, and acting are my creative outlets, whether it's teaching at dance schools or taking the stage at gigs across Perth.

Amidst this passion, I've been giving a lot of thought to investing in my personal growth and self-improvement journey.

So...

Last weekend marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life—an 8-week journey into leadership, dance, and personal growth with ‘Amongst Queens’.

As I stepped into this unfamiliar territory, I felt a mix of excitement and fear. This initiation day allowed me to connect with a few other women doing this course and I truly feel inspired after the conversations we had around what makes a leader and what we value in our lives and what we want our story to be.

Vulnerability: The Path to Growth

One of the first lessons that resonated with me was the importance of vulnerability. It's natural to feel apprehensive when venturing into uncharted waters. However, I've come to realise that vulnerability is not a sign of weakness; it's a sign of being coachable and open to learning. Stepping out of our comfort zones is where real growth happens.

Becoming Comfortable with Discomfort

In the pursuit of leadership and self-development, we often encounter discomfort. This discomfort is a sign that we are challenging ourselves, pushing boundaries, and expanding our horizons. It's crucial to embrace this discomfort, for it is where transformation occurs. I learned that being comfortable with discomfort is a skill every leader should cultivate.

Acknowledging the Journey, Not Just the Destination

As driven individuals, we tend to focus on setting goals and achieving them. But in our relentless pursuit of the next destination, we sometimes forget to appreciate the journey. It's essential to pause and reflect on how far we've come, the challenges we've overcome, and the lessons we've learned. Sharing our process can inspire and guide others on their paths.

Defining Your Story: Values and Purpose

One question that has really stuck with me since initiation day was, "What do you want your story to be?" This question invites us to examine our values and what we stand for. Every individual has a unique story to tell, and it's crucial to align that story with our values and purpose. It's about becoming the author of our narrative and leading with intention.

Player vs. Spectator: Choosing Your Role

Leadership is a choice—one that requires active participation. Are you a player or a spectator in your own life? Leaders are the players, actively shaping their destinies and the world around them. It's about taking charge, making decisions, and having an impact.

My initiation day into the world of leadership and dance was an unforgettable experience. It taught me that leadership is not just about guiding others but also about understanding and leading ourselves. It's about embracing vulnerability, acknowledging our journey, and defining our story based on our values and purpose.

As I move forward in this 8-week course, I'm excited to continue exploring the connection between leadership and values. I encourage you to reflect on what YOU stand for and what you VALUE, for each of us is worth making a meaningful impact in this world.
