Our Client is a highly successful and highly ambitious ASX listed junior mining company operating a high grade, high margin iron ore mine in Western Australia's Mid-West. An individual that has the energy, enthusiasm, passion, and smarts to lead a total mining operation in the near future without the supporting structures of the big multi-nationals. This will be someone that makes things happen and wants to be a Mine Manager in the near-term and chart a career in senior operational mine management.

Position Overview:
The Alternate Mine Manager plays a critical role in overseeing the efficient and safe operations of a mining site. Reporting directly to the Mine Manager, this position involves managing various aspects of the mine's activities, personnel, safety protocols, production targets, and environmental compliance. The Alternate Mine Manager collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth operations and the achievement of organisational goals.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Oversight:
  • Assist the Mine Manager in planning, organising, and directing all mining activities to achieve production targets and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor and optimise mining processes, equipment utilisation, and resource allocation to ensure maximum productivity.
  • Implement operational strategies that align with company objectives and industry best practices.
  • Effective management of mining and crushing contractor.

Safety and Compliance:
  • Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, regulations, and environmental standards to prevent accidents, injuries, and environmental harm.
  • Collaborate with safety and environmental teams to develop and implement effective safety programs, risk assessments, and emergency response plans.

Personnel Management:
  • Lead, mentor and motivate a small team of mine staff including a surveyor, pit technician, operators and support personnel.
  • Facilitate training and development programs to enhance the skills and competencies of the workforce.
  • Address personnel issues, conflicts, and performance concerns in a proactive and constructive manner.

Production Planning and Reporting:
  • Contribute to short-term and long-term production planning, considering equipment availability, resource constraints, and market demand.
  • Manage the plant and earthworks contract ensuring good work practice and positive commercial outcomes
  • Generate and analyse production reports, identifying trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Manage grade control and ensure best outcomes

Budgeting and Cost Control:
  • Assist in the preparation and management of budgets, ensuring optimal resource allocation and cost control.
  • Identify opportunities to optimise processes, reduce waste, and minimise operational expenses.

Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Liaise with various internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, local communities, land holders, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Represent the mine in meetings, negotiations, and discussions related to operations, compliance, and community relations.

Continuous Improvement:
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
  • Stay updated with advancements in mining technology, equipment, and industry trends, and assess their potential application to the mine's operations.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or related field would be highly desirable.
  • Must have a WA Unrestricted Quarry Managers Certificate of Competency.
  • Be eligible to obtain their Senior Site Executive Certification before the March 2025 deadline.
  • Several years of progressive experience in mining operations, including supervisory or leadership roles.
  • In-depth knowledge of mining processes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address operational challenges effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective team management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in using mining software and technology for production tracking and reporting.
  • Leadership abilities, including the capacity to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Adaptable and flexible mindset to navigate dynamic and challenging mining environments.
