Senior Mechanical Engineer

Job description

Role Opportunity
Join a dynamic and growing engineering consultancy involved in a diverse range of brownfield mineral processing, materials handling, and non-process infrastructure (NPI) projects.
This role offers an opportunity to run your own jobs end-to-end - from performing design calculations and producing documentation, to coordinating drafting and executing Project Engineer duties - while working under the guidance of a highly experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer.
If you're seeking hands-on project ownership within a flexible, small-to-medium consultancy environment, this is the perfect next step in your career.
Benefits
You'll gain exposure to a mix of mineral processing, materials handling, and NPI projects, with the autonomy to manage and deliver your own work. The position offers close mentorship from a Principal Mechanical Engineer, a supportive and collaborative team culture, and the opportunity for long-term growth and development without the red tape of a large organisation.
Duties and Responsibilities
You will perform detailed mechanical and hydraulic design calculations to support brownfield projects, produce and review design documentation including drawings, reports, and specifications, and coordinate with drafters, designers, and other engineering disciplines. The role also involves taking on Project Engineer tasks to ensure successful project delivery and contributing technical input during client meetings and project discussions.
Experience & Background
The ideal candidate will have between six to twelve years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer ideally within a small-to-medium consultancy or EPC. You should have strong experience across mineral processing projects involving tanks, pumps, piping systems, mills, and wet process equipment. A self-starter attitude is essential, as this position suits someone who can perform with minimal supervision and enjoys working in a hands-on, delivery-focused environment rather than a large corporate consultancy.
Key Skills
A solid grounding in hydraulic calculations is essential for this position, ideally demonstrated through experience with FluidFlow3 or similar software. You should have strong skills in pump sizing and selection, as well as a sound understanding of piping design and system layout.
